I bet you often hear people say: “I hate changes”. But have you ever heard the opposite? People who love it when their life does a 180, and when they have no idea what to expect? Maybe, but let’s be honest: This is not the majority. Most people live in their own secure bubble, and find everything outside that bubble threatening. Inside it’s cosy, but outside it’s dark and scary to deal with.
In our own secure bubble, we live by habits we created a long time ago and as soon as we need to change them, it gets uncomfortable. Why? Because it’s outside our comfort zone. We need to step out of our bubble and do something we’ve never done before. And you know how the saying goes: Old habits die hard.
But what happens when we are forced to step outside our comfort zone? What happens when we need to make serious changes in our lives, to keep a future we’ve always dreamed of having?
The whole world is experiencing that kind of push right now, and it’s called the Coronavirus. We are challenged because suddenly our secure bubbles seem to be bursting and we don’t know what to expect of the next few days, months or even years. We don’t know how the world will shift after this virus is under control.
Change = Chance
A lot of us are suddenly in quarantine. We were used to going out whenever we liked and suddenly we can’t. The luckier ones among us can work from home, while others less fortunate are losing their jobs. We need to adjust to a completely new situation that we weren’t prepared for. As a business owner, maybe you’re getting fewer clients, or you need to shut down your store and you don’t know whether your business can survive the next months.
And the worst part? Every single day, every single hour we can access news which seems to talk only about Corona. How many people died? Which ventures had to file for bankruptcy? What new restrictions are coming up next week? The news is full of negativity, catastrophes and claims with no evidence. And it seems like there is no hope for recovery.
But what do you do in this situation, when you find yourself worrying about the next day and not knowing how things will turn out? Do you fall prey to your anxieties and fears? Or do you take this time to actively look for solutions?
If you truly want to come out on top after this situation, you need to view change as an opportunity, and actively look for solutions.
Falling prey to your fear right now would only be making things worse. I mean, just imagine where you would be after the whole Coronavirus is history. If you’ve been paralzyed by fear the whole time, you’ll come out with nothing, and if your competitors have got further ahead in their business, you’ll feel like you’re starting from zero.
You need to see the opportunity in your current circumstances. Even if they feel unbearable right now, there is always a lesson they can teach us.
Use your time wisely
If you’re sitting at home and don’t know what to do with your day, then take some time to listen to yourself. Get to know yourself better! Become clear about what you want in your life! What is the first thing you want to do when this storm has passed? This pandemic is giving you the chance to become really creative. Do the things you’ve always wanted to do at home but never got the time for it, e.g. start that new online . Find a distraction that will help you make the best out of this situation.
Need a reset?
But is it really that simple, you might ask. What if you don’t find new solutions? Or even worse: What if you realise that you’ve been on the wrong path all this time, and you long for something completely different? You might even need to start from scratch after you’ve put so much work into building this life of yours.
And this is exactly what’s so scary. Starting from zero forces us to step outside of our secure bubble. We need to step out, to take a chance on what’s on the other side. We need to leave our old habits and create new ones. And we don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. Whether it’s gonna turn out. We need to conquer new frontiers and all we know is what we’ve got now.
Nobody said it would be easy and even the most successful among us are worried about the uncertainty in the world right now. But looking actively for new solutions is your personal fight against the Coronavirus. And when you step into this fight you can only win.
Just imagine: You use this time to invest in yourself and your future. You allow yourself to collect new skills and ideas for you and your business. That’s what’s going to push you miles further than the people who don’t take control of their life until after the storm passed by.
You can only win by taking action steps, and by not deferring to your insecurities and fears. Even if you can’t put your ideas into practice until the Coronavirus is under control.
Be creative, be compassionate, look your fears right in the eye and say:
I don’t know why certain things are happening to me now, but I know the changes in my life are always good for me – when I’m taking action steps!
